On Flag Day, June 14th, the park, working in partnership with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and Woodmen of the World, hosted a naturalization ceremony.
Homestead National Monument of America is a perfect place to host these events, as homesteading brought people from many countries to the United States in pursuit of the American Dream.
Ellis Island was not needed until the height of homesteading and was closed when homesteading subsided. The Homestead Act had a definite impact on immigration into this country.
