Civil War-Era Santa Claus Visits Park

Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park

National Park News

Volunteer Kevin Rawlings made his annual appearance as a Civil War Santa Claus on Sunday, December 19th, at Chatham Manor at Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park.

Kevin plays the 1862 version of Santa, as envisioned by artist Thomas Nast in Harpers Weekly. Nast had his original Santa visiting Union troops and decked out in the stars and stripes.  He went on to refine the chubby elf in later versions.
