Burnside Bridge at Antietam National Battlefield closed to Public Access from September 26 through September 30,2005.

Antietam National Battlefield Superintendent J.W. Howard announced today that there will be no pedestrian access to Burnside Bridge from September 26 through September 30, 2005. Access will be prohibited to allow installation of new surface to the historic lane that crosses the Bridge. Work will involve removal of the current surface, cleaning of the undersurface and then replacement of the road surface using an adhesive and gravel mixture. Completion of this project will provide a safe road surface for battlefield visitors in the future.
The Burnside Bridge Parking Area will remain open during this period, but no pedestrian access to the Bridge will be allowed for safety reasons.
