On Saturday, November 6th, volunteers from Andrews Air Force Base came out to Glen Echo Park to begin phase one of the park’s trolley car restoration project. This included treating exterior rust spots by sandpapering and sandblasting the spots, cleaning those spots with acetone, and then covering them with primer. This work helped stabilize the trolley car for the winter; the restoration project will continue this coming spring and summer. Photos of their efforts can be found on official Facebook page of Glen Echo Park (U.S. National Park Service).
These active duty members of the U.S. Air Force, some of whom will begin tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq in the near future, took several hours of their precious free time to help the park stabilize one of its most recognized features.
Our appreciation for their work goes beyond words and our hearts go with them as they continue their service to our country both at home and overseas.
