LR Central High School Postage Stamp to Be Dedicated

Central High School National Historic Site

National Park News

Milestones of the Civil Rights Movement will be immortalized on postage when the U.S. Postal Service issues the "To Form a More Perfect Union" commemorative stamp sheet. Select participants of the movement will speak about their experiences during First Day of Issue dedication ceremonies. The public is invited to attend these free events. The event will be held on August 30, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. (CDT).
The postage stamps will recognize the courage and achievements of the men and women who, during the years of the Civil Rights Movement, struggled to bring the vision of our founding fathers closer to reality. The sheet of 37-cent stamps trace the history of our nation's Civil Rights Movement through 10 vivid illustrations of key events, people, and decisions that changed the course of this nation.
At each of the following locations, the stamps will be brought to life by performances from the musical stage play, "If This Hat Could Talk," based on Civil Rights activist Dr. Dorothy Height's person experiences during the Movement - from the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott to the 1963 March on Washington, D.C.
In Little Rock, Melba Pattillo Beals, one of the Little Rock Nine, will give a brief talk in the auditorium at Little Rock Central High School at 11:00 a.m. (CDT). For more information, contact the historic site at (501) 374-1957.
