NPS Comptroller Leads Volunteers In Trails Cleanup

Great Falls Park

National Park News

Taking advantage of the mild, summer weather last Friday, NPS comptroller Bruce Sheaffer invited employees from the accounting firm of KPMG to spend the day clearing overgrown vegetation and removing trash from the trails in Great Falls Park, a unit of George Washington Memorial Parkway.

Thirty-two volunteers, led by KPMG partner Jeff Norris, jumped at Bruce's offer to escape the urban confines of office life and dive into the dark, itchy patches of underbrush invading the trails.  Sheaffer provided them with advice on the safe techniques of invasive plant removal and the proper use of tools and personal protective equipment, including hip waders.

KPMG employees enthusiastically rose to the challenge, clearing trails throughout the park.
