World's Longest Tree Root
It belonged to a Douglas Fir, and is a tap root, which is usual because it was thought that Douglas Fir didn't have tap roots. It wasn't known which tree the root belonged to, until regular trimming of the top-side forest removed the tree and the root began to rot.
