Denali Fault-Line Scarp
Linear features, such as this fault-line trace in the Bull River basin on the South Slope of the Alaska Range with Denali, are common along the McKinley strand of the Denali Fault System. The fault is not well understood and investigators frequently debate what type of fault it is (most think it is a right-lateral strike/slip fault), and the degree of movement that has taken place along the fault in recent geologic times (10’s to 100’s of kilometers).
