Location: Sol Duc Valley
Very little sunlight is wasted in the moist forests of Olympic. The canopy, upwards of 300 feet from the floor, captures most of the sunlight. Light that seeps through the canopy's cracks streams into a layer of young hemlocks, shrubby huckelberry and devil's club. The spotty patches of light that remain grow violets, trillium, and an array of saxifrage species on the forest floor.
