Novarupta
The rhyolitic 1912 Novarupta lave dome (foreground) sits inside the assymetrical ejecta ring (snow covered) that consists mostly of fallout from the eruptions of June 7-8, 1912. Directly behind is the dacite dome of Falling Mountain, truncated by the June 6, 1912 eruption. Snow and ice coved Mount Mageik (center-left skyline) rises to just over 7100 feet, and Mount Cerberus (center at foot of Mt. Mageik) is another pre-1912 dacite dome. The 2.5 kilometer wide vent depression of June 6 is filled in by the Valley of 10,000 Smokes ignimbrite and fallback ejecta.
